Clay Trinket Plates

Image
Activity Description: In this activity, we had to make a clay trinket plate. We had to include something that reflected us, use 3 or more colors when painting, an added piece, and a subtractive piece in our trinket plate. For my 3 colors I used blue, 2 shades of green, and yellow. My subtractive parts of my plate are the shoreline and the waves. My added part is trees. This reflected me because home is where the heart is and my heart and home are both located in the Black Hills! I made a replica of my version of lake Pactola, one of my favorite places in the Black Hills.  Extension Activity: For an extension activity I think it would be fun to create a tile (or coaster) that has a symbol of a student. It would require the same criteria, it would just be a tile instead of a trinket plate!

Printing

Image
Activity Description: In this activity, we came up with an idea that described us. I chose my happy place, Hawaii. I also used bubble letters to symbolize that I am a bubbly person. We used 2 colors of construction paper. One to print our picture on and one to glue our pictures to. We used a pen or pencil to push our design into the foam and then used a roller to put ink onto the foam and used a clean roller to roll the ink onto our paper.  Extension Activity: An extension activity for this activity could be to create a family coat of arms and put it onto the print. They would have to do a write-up about their coat of arms and what each thing on there means. They would also talk a little bit about their family history to show why they chose to put specific things on their coat of arms.

Watercolor paint

Image
Activity Description: For this activity, we used lines to create a sunset. Then we used watercolors to paint our pictures. On the top half, we had to use warm colors. On the bottom half of the picture, we had to use cold colors! It was supposed to gradually fade out to each color. Extension Activity: For an extension activity having students do a larger picture would be awesome! This would allow for them to have more of a transition area. They would get to play with mixing and blending colors more this way too.

Illusion

Image
Activity Description: In this activity, we created an optical illusion! We used rulers to come up with a design. When we colored it in we could not have the same 2 colors touching. We created a pattern that tricks your eyes after you finished. We also had to include 4 media we used on this piece of artwork.  Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I would have my students make an illusion quilt! Each student will get a paper to design to create their personalized illusion page. I will add all the square designs together to see how big of an illusion we can make! My students will then get to see all their artwork in the hallway and see the illusions of all their other classmates!

Hidden Safari

Image
Activity Description: In this project, we used a bunch of warm colors to create overlapping patterns across a white piece of paper. This pattern covered up a drawing of a safari animal that we had to draw upside down lightly in blue! This project was very fun especially once we saw through the red glasses that we made the safari animal we drew! I drew an elephant!  Extension Activity: For an extension activity I think this would be fun to do secret messages with! I would have my students write a "secret story" that my other students could take turns reading! I think this would be fun for a mix of art, writing, and reading!

One Line, Bubble Painting

Image
Activity Description: In this activity, we had to create a one-line drawing. For my one-line drawing, I chose to do mountains with trees next to a lake! I based my inspiration on home. It is based on a little lake named Pactola. We then used Kool-Aid colored water to create bubbles and paint our picture using the bubbles! It was so much fun! We had to list what we chose to make and the colors we used. Extention Activity:  For an extension activity it would be really fun to make students go outside and make a one-line drawing of an object. Then they would have to record the colors of that object so that they could come inside and bubble paint their real-life one-line drawing! They would then do a write-up about why they chose that object to draw.

Picasso

Image
Activity Description: This assignment was supposed to be a similar piece to Picasso's Starry Night artwork. We had to do many layers! We started with a light or dark piece of construction paper and then began gluing tissue paper onto it to create a sky. Next, we cut out another piece of construction paper to create a silhouette. Then we glued the silhouette on and had to use color on top of our art piece to create movement. Overall, I thought this project was very fun!  Extension Activity: For an extension activity off of this I would have my students write a story that takes place at/on the landscape that they made. I think this would be a good art lesson to integrate into English. The story would have to have character, a setting, and a beginning, middle, and end! These projects combined would create a really fun expressions project!
